The Streetcar Company

Community theatre in the Lakes Region since 1972

To Our Lakes Region Community,

For 50 years it has been our pleasure to provide you with quality live theatre entertainment.

Due to a number of factors, our entirely volunteer-run 501c3 non-profit is finding itself in a very tough and very dangerous place financially. Just like you, we are experiencing the rising costs across the board. Having been shuttered due to the pandemic left us without income for some time. Also, our access to securing venues at the affordable prices of the past no longer exists.

On this #GivingTuesday we are asking you, our members, our audience, and our community, to lend us your financial support to help us continue to provide the opportunities and performances we have come to be known for the past 50 years.

No amount is too small. Please consider making a donation to Streetcar Company this #GivingTuesday using the button above or by mailing a check to Streetcar Company PO Box 775 Laconia, NH 03246 so that we may continue to entertain the Lakes Region for the next 50 years!

Sincerely,
David Nelson
President

Inspired by Agatha Christie and Alfred Hitchcock-style mystery genres, Charles Caratti set out to write a story in honor of the 100 the Anniversary of WWI (2014). The year is 1917 and the world has been at war, The Great War, for three years. A young American woman named Kate is approached by an elderly, somewhat eccentric, Mrs. Lillian Merriweather. Mrs. Merriweather tells Kate that she knows of a secret involving the other passengers and trusts her with this secret. When Merriweather disappears, Kate pairs up with Ida, a young war orphan to try and solve the mystery of the missing lady. Like with all great mysteries, there’s a twist we didn’t see coming!

Streetcar Company is excited to announce...

Streetcar Company is excited to announce we will be presenting MTI's All Together Now, a musical review.  It will feature fifteen songs from popular shows new and old, even some that have not yet been licensed for community theatre presentation until now.

As has been the case with many businesses and organizations, the pandemic has turned things upside down for over a year now.  Many theatre groups have had to pause production of live in-person theatre until it became safe to resume.  Things seem to be taking a turn for the better lately, and theatre is returning to the stage.  Streetcar Company has suffered an extended blackout due to our reliance on privately owned venues to host our productions; many local theaters and auditoriums have still not felt comfortable enough to book entertainment.  We are hopefully reaching the end of this last hurdle, and we are confident that Streetcar shows may resume.

As Streetcar is a non-profit community volunteer driven organization, we rely on the amazing people of the Lakes Region to make our magic happen.  We have so many dedicated folks working hard to keep our shows entertaining you.  However due to the pandemic shutting down shows, it also shuts down our ability to sustain a workable company income to continue our efforts.  MTI’s All Together Now has been arranged as a world-wide gift to community theatres everywhere who have felt this financial burden, and they have granted companies access to perform this show as a fundraiser to help get us back on our singing and dancing feet.

You will be hearing much more about this wonderful show in the coming days.  We are counting on our incredibly talented actors and actresses to come out and audition for the show; there are so many numbers to perform that there is sure to be something to delight all.  Audition dates have not been set yet, but will likely be in early October, and further information will be available soon.

Streetcar Company is the longest running community theatre organization in the Lakes Region; next year we will celebrate our 50th year of bringing live theatre to the community.  We are counting on our area residents to come out and enjoy this show, so that we can continue to entertain you for many years to come.

Show dates will be Friday November 12th through Sunday November 14th, and it will be performed in Laconia, NH; the exact venue to be determined soon.  The show will be directed by local resident, longtime Streetcar member, and everybody's favorite Donkey, David Nelson.  Thank you, and see you soon!

The above graphic shows the current list of all the songs that can be chosen from in MTI's All Together Now.  The exact selection of songs in Streetcar's upcoming production has not been determined yet, and will be decided on based on a number of variables.
For now, we invite you to browse through the list so you can get a taste of what this show might feature, and so auditioners can think about what they might like to perform!

"The Birds" is a short story by the British writer Daphne du Maurier, first published in 1952 and was the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic. This version of “The Birds” has been adapted for the stage by Irish playwright, screenwriter and director Conor McPhereson.
This story takes place in New England in the near future as the birds have already begun to take their spot at the top of the food chain. But this story isn’t about the “The Birds”. It’s about three people, or what’s left of them, as they try to co-exist in this new reality while a mysterious neighbor watches their every
